Winter Skin Solutions

Winter can be rough on your skin, cold winds and freezing temps can wreck havoc, so how do you protect your skin from that dry, chapped feeling?

Here are some simple tips:

Stay hydrated. Winter weather can really dry out your skin by drinking ample amounts of water throughout the day will help to keep your skin glowing and hydrated. Try drinking room temperature water (better for the digestive system) and some fresh lemon.

Eat Healthy Fats. Dietary fats like avocado, coconut, nuts and salmon that contain omega 3s help the body stay hydrated from the inside out. Healthy dietary fats help to give your skin extra moisture by increasing production of oil producing glands to help the body produce its own moisture.

Take warm, not hot showers. During cold weather, a hot shower can feel amazing! However, spending too much time in the shower under hot water can dry out your skin and rob your body of moisture. It is best to take warm showers or limit your time in the shower if you are using hot water and be sure to moisturize after.

Moisturize after every hand wash. During the winter it is important to wash your hands often because of the spread of germs. But washing hands often can dry them out therefore it is important to moisturize after every wash.  My recommended hand cream is:

Try a humidifier in your bedroom while you sleep. The additional moisture it provides is invaluable and will not only improve the tone and texture of your skin, it also decreases sinus sensitivity and keeps hair and nails hydrated too.

Use an exfoliator. Sloughing off dead skin cells from head to toe helps to enhance the penetration of moisturizer. When you are able to remove dead skin cells the skin will appear brighter and tighter. Always use an exfoliator that is gentle but still gets the job done.

Take care of chapped lips. Chapped lips are often the first sign that winter is upon us. Applying and reapplying lip balm is not the solution for keeping your “kisser” smooth and soft.

Use a lip exfoliator at night to remove dead skin cells and follow with a specially formulated lip moisturizer. Whatever you do, don’t lick your lips! It will worsen chapping in the long run.

Some of my favorite products:

For Exfoliation:  Rodan and Feilds Mico-Dermabrasion Paste Micro-Dermabrasion Paste is a high-glide, oil-free formula designed to promote maximum gentle exfoliation. Use intermittently to enhance cell turnover and improve skin tone and texture. Lucky Magazine reports that it smoothes away rough spots.

For Body Moisturizer- Pure Coconut oil is natural, grab it right from the jar and put it on your skin. It will make you feel moisturized all day long!

For Sensitive and chapped skin. Rodan and Feilds Smooth Regime. SOOTHE Regimen combines clinically proven OTC active ingredients with our exclusive, patent-pending RFp3 peptide technology to shield against the biological and environmental aggressors associated with dry, irritated, sensitive skin. The result? A healthy-looking, even-toned complexion every day.

For Chapped Lips: Lip Renewing Serum When it comes to lips, time and the environment take their toll in a profound way. The smooth, naturally full, defined lips that nature gives us will, over time, become thinner, flatter, less rosy and more lined. Reclaim or maintain the lips of youth with REDEFINE Lip Renewing Serum. Each peptide and antioxidant-rich capsule helps lips retain natural moisturizing factors, smoothes lip texture and reduces the appearance of lip wrinkles.
