Diet. Since inflammation is the number one cause of dull, damaged skin removing processed foods and sugar from your diet will help to tame inflammation. Eat more foods that are anti-inflammatory like green leafy vegetables. Increase the amount of omega 3s foods like wild salmon, walnuts, and anchovies. Also, increase the amount of lean protein in your daily diet, but stick to organic and grass fed sources.
Hydration. Hydrating your skin from the inside and outside is important when trying to keep skin healthy and glowing. Drink water throughout your day to stay hydrated from the inside, at least 8 glasses a day but it should be more.
Sleep. When we don’t sleep enough it shows on our face. During sleep we reset our body’s hormones and release Human Growth Hormone that help to keep your skin and body young. When you lack sleep the body increases cortisol, a hormone that breaks down skin cells.
Cleanse. Washing your face in the morning and night is important for glowing skin. Use warm water to rinse your face, making sure to wash away all traces of your cleanser and scrub. Use a towel to pat your face dry. Try not to rub your face when you dry it, since this can encourage wrinkles and irritate the skin. A good cleanser should pull pull impurities out of your skin, open up the pores, and clean the dead skin, dirt and bacteria away from your face.
Tone. Toning goes a long way in helping to remove dead skin cells. After cleaning your face using a good toner will help to take advantage of open pores and get those important ingredients in the skin. A toner will also balance the pH of the skin which resolves oily or dryness and kills the bacteria stored deep in the cells
Exfoliate. Exfoliation improves the appearance of he skin and works as a gentle resurfacing and can help to reduce and remove fine lines and wrinkles. Exfoliation helps to stimulate skin cell production and as we age the renewal cycle of cells starts to slow down. The longer dead cells stay on the skin it will result in dry, thicker, and duller-looking skin. Exfoliation not only removes the build up of dead dull cell but exposes the younger, living cells underneath resulting in more vibrant, glowing skin and reduced appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Treatment. This step will close pores, keep the good ingredients in and the bad stuff out, including pollutants, bacteria and more. Restoring the skin’s natural moisture will slow down the aging process, help out with sensitivity and keep your face looking and feeling better all around.
Protect. Finish off with a vitamin-packed serum. This will help make you look fresh on the big day. A good serum will work to even your skin tone.
My favorite products for healthy glowing skin is Rodan and Fields products.
Rodan + Fields products feature Multi-Med® Therapy designed to deliver the right ingredients, in the right formulations, in the right order to transform your skin.
All formulations are not created equal. Topical ingredients can create visible differences; even transform skin. Nobody wants to coat themselves with "ingredients"; every day. With Multi-Med Therapy, R & F combine pharmaceutical ingredients with active cosmetics in aesthetically elegant vehicles for effective formulations that feel like luxury skin treatments.
No single ingredient can effectively treat a complex skin concern. However, though skin conditions can be complex, the solutions are simple with easy-to-use systems designed to give you radiant, healthy-looking skin.
What I love about Rodan and Fields is that the products were made by 2 dermatologists that wanted to give everyone access to dermatology-inspired skincare so they can experience the personal confidence that comes with a healthy, clear, even-toned complexion.
