“Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.” ~Henry Ford

I always remember my mother telling me you can do anything you want to do if you put your mind to it.  I have always believed that your mind is a powerful tool that can help accomplish anything you want to in life and getting your mind in shape is the first step to getting your body fit and healthy.

It is important to make some shifts in your mindset to help improve your health and live your best life.

I have put together my top 3 mindset shifts that I believe will help you to live a happier and healthier life.

Abundance vs. Lack Mindset

When you operate from a mindset of lack you will always be wanting and needing more.  For example, when you go on a strict diet cutting out your favorite foods and tell yourself you will never be able to have that piece of cake you want will always make you want it more.

When you are lacking in life then it only brings up feelings of fear and scarcity.  If you shift your mindset into an abundance mindset than you don’t have to feel fear that you won’t have something or you can’t have it.

When you adopt the abundance mindset around your diet you don’t have to feel that you can never eat that cookie or cake ever again.  You know that it will always be there and you don’t have to binge on it when you see it because there will always be another time that you can have eat a treat.

Victim vs. Empowered Mindset

A victim is someone that is stuck in a world of things that are happening TO us.  Victim’s have no control over what goes on in our lives and they feel like people always take us for granted or take advantage of us.  A victim is someone that feels helpless and can’t see how to make their situations better.

The empowered mindset comes from the place where we can create the life we want and we can take action around the circumstances that happen in our life. The empowered person teaches people how to treat them. If we don’t like what is going in our lives we have the ability to change it.

When we feel like we not seeing results in our body or life that we want to see and start saying things like it’s not fair, I’m working so hard and nothing is working we fall into the victim trap.

Turning it around to the empowered mindset would be figuring out what you are doing that is not working and figuring out how to change it for the better.

It is easy to fall into the trap of being the victim because you don’t need to take responsible for your actions however it leaves you powerless. Choosing the empowered mindset allows you to be in control of your own destiny.

All or Nothing vs. Balanced Mindset

The all or nothing mindset falls into the trap of feeling that if you can’t do it perfectly why do it at all?

For example, you start your “diet” on Monday and you are good all week until happy hour on Thursday. Then you have a drink or two and maybe a few chips and the next thing you know you just spent the rest of the weekend eating and drinking everything in sight!

Or you decide to start a new healthy habit of exercise, mediation and taking your daily supplements and you start to feel good because you are able to accomplish all of your these goals for the first few days.

Then you forget to take your vitamins one day and another day you can’t find the time to exercise or meditate so it all goes out the window and you give up on it all.

When you change over to more of a balanced mindset you don’t need to be so hard on yourself if you fall short of meeting one or two goals.  You know that you don’t need to do everything perfectly all the time.

The all or nothing mindset is strict and unyielding and just sets us up for failure and disappointment.  Adapting the balanced mindset will help you to realize it ok to mess up and then learn from your mistakes, there is no right way or wrong way and it is ok to not get it right all the time.
